My Windows license is not working

How annoying that your Windows license doesn’t work! It may sometimes happen that there is a non-working license, but usually the error lies somewhere else. There is often an error in the Windows installation or the Microsoft activation servers are not accessible.

Fortunately, we have developed a step-by-step plan to help you with your activation problem! Follow the steps below to still activate your computer.

Steps to activate your Windows:

It is important that the latest version of Windows is installed, then the licenses work best and we know for sure that the problem lies elsewhere.Where can I see if updates are available?

Which Windows version do you have installed? A Window Home license does not work on a Windows Pro installation. Our licenses also do not work on a Windows N variant. These versions of Windows are limited and specifically marketed for Europe. Do you want to upgrade a Windows home version to Pro and have you purchased an OEM license? Then unfortunately we have to disappoint you. Windows Home cannot be upgraded to Pro with an OEM license, nor is it possible to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 with an OEM license. Both of these are only possible with a Retail license.

Sometimes your computer cannot connect to the Microsoft activation server. You will usually receive a message that the license is already in use or another error code. Lots of computers & laptops are factory installed with Windows by the manufacturer. These then put a file in the BIOS of the computer with the license & Windows version. Unfortunately, this makes the computer impossible to upgrade as Windows always looks at that file first. There is a way to force Windows to use a different license:
  1. Press Windows key + R to open Run
  2. This opens the “run” program
  3. Type CMDand press CTRL + SHIFT + Enter
  4. This will open Command prompt in administrator rights
  5. Then type and press enter (replace <windowslicense> for your new license) slmgr /ipk <windowslicense>
  6. Then type and press enter slmgr /ato
  7. Restart your computer and your new license should be installed
Note: you may have to perform the activation process again
